Title: Business Plans

Who should apply?

Any established, expanding or start-up farm business that wishes to develop a business plan to increase or improve financial sustainability, address growth needs and opportunities, develop business goals, and define concrete next steps.

To apply you must:

  • Have completed a GYFP Workshop and Action Plan Review within the last five years (or equivalent)

Eligible activities and expenditures:

  • Third-party advisory costs to develop one of the following:
    • Expansion plan
    • Human resources plan
    • Business plan
    • Risk management plan
    • Feasibility plan
    • Diversification plan

Ineligible activities and expenditures:

  • Succession plans or activities relating to succession planning
  • Any activities or costs relating to outcomes of a business plan, including but not limited to:
    • Certification fees
    • Legal activities fees
    • Licenses
    • Consultants fees
    • Registration fees
    • Investment or banking charges and fees
  • Operationalization or implementation of a plan
  • In-kind contributions
  • Activities and expenditures as detailed in the Program Guidelines

Cost-share per cent:

35 per cent

Maximum available cost-share per project:


Required Documentation:

  • Certificate of completion for a GYFP Workshop and a copy of your Action Plan
  • Quote or proposal from a third-party organization or business advisor, detailing statement of work, outcomes and costs

Merit assessment criteria:

  • Ability of project to address a need identified in your GYFP Action Plan
  • Project provides increased capacity to plan for and manage business growth, and to make strategic decisions as they relate to the farm business goals
  • Project helps address regional (e.g., northern), sector or community level needs
