To apply you must

  • Be a processor that manufactures products in a facility with fewer than 200 employees
  • Have completed an Enterprise Resource Planning or supply chain audit or assessment that demonstrates the need for the project, conducted internally or by a consultant or business advisor
  • Have baseline Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for productivity, energy usage and waste management

Eligible activities and expenditures

  • Resource management plan implementation that involves evaluation, procurement, development and customization of new Enterprise Resource Planning or supply chain optimization systems including directly related advisory services, software and hardware involved with installation and customization
  • First-time development of reports or dashboards that integrate meaningful metrics and benchmarks related to resource management, supply chain and productivity performance, which can include but are not limited to:
    • Product shipping, distribution or routing across different transportation modes (e.g., trucking, intermodal, rail, marine)
    • Border requirement integration
    • Supply and demand forecasting, management performance reports
    • Inventory and input management
    • Order fulfillment benchmarking
    • Product quality management
  • First-time costs to implement a supply chain optimization that improves compatibility and interface with trading partners, such as:
    • Electronic Data Interface (EDI) systems, including Advanced Shipping Notices (ASN) for improved customer or supplier interface
    • Integrating products into national standardized product registry for synchronized data exchange (e.g., national product registry [GS1 Canada ECCnet], automating product attribute communication)
  • One-time costs associated with training personnel on new project-related systems (e.g., train the trainer)
  • One-time labour costs specifically required for the project, such as third-party advisory costs
  • One-time costs for rental of facilities, processing equipment or machinery required specifically for the project

Ineligible activities and expenditures

  • Ongoing software licensing costs or fees
  • Direct supply chain and logistics costs (e.g., freight and storage, trucking)
  • Ongoing advisory service costs or expenses associated with data analysis and reporting
  • Ongoing costs associated with third-party logistics services or contracts
  • Ongoing training and re-training costs linked to existing systems
  • Travel and meal costs In-kind contributions
  • Activities and expenditures as detailed here

Available cost-share

35 per cent, up to a maximum of $100,000

Required documentation

  • Enterprise Resource Planning or supply chain audit or assessment showing need for project, conducted internally or by a consultant or business advisor
  • Quote or proposal from third-party organization or consultant, detailing services to be provided, costs and outcomes
  • Quote detailing costs of equipment, retrofitting or technology

Merit assessment criteria

Applications will be assessed against the extent to which:

  • Plan, audit or assessments demonstrate need for the project
  • Project will lead to significantly enhanced labour productivity and efficiencies
  • Project will make a measurable impact on KPIs
  • Relevant business impacts are anticipated and have been quantified, such as:
    • Reduced identified risks
    • Job creation or retention
    • Increased sales and revenue
    • Increased profitability
  • The project will result in secondary benefits for the environment
  • Funding reduces business risk
  • Project is aligned with program outcomes
  • Resources, experience and skills necessary to oversee and carry out the project are identified
  • Project work plans are clearly defined and aligned to project goals
